On this, the anniversary of the Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America (commonly called the Declaration of Independence) being approved by the Continental Congress (but not actually signed until almost a month later), Herr Andrew Cuomo demonstrates even more hypocrisy.

His office issued the following statement about the Fourth of July:

"The Fourth of July is an opportunity for New Yorkers to celebrate our nation's independence and the freedoms that we cherish as Americans. Today we offer our gratitude to the men and women of our nation's armed forces who serve our country, and those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend our nation. This weekend, as we gather with friends and family to celebrate the holiday, let us remember our service members, our veterans, and all those who put their lives on the line so we can live in peace. I wish a happy Independence Day to all New Yorkers."

One of the freedoms tens of millions of people, "cherish as Americans," is the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.  Sadly, this is a freedom Herr Cuomo is gradually trying to destroy.  Quoting a couple relevant excerpts from the aforementioned Declaration:

"HE has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public Good." ... "HE has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power."

This is exemplified by his insistence on continuing to deny the people of the State of New York the right to own the Arms necessary to defend ourselves and our communities from enemies foreign and domestic.  The first of those sentences is further exemplified by the abuse of taxation power to effect his social goals, most notably with respect to the tobacco tax.  Make no mistake, Herr Cuomo is taxing poor people on this one, because poor people are more likely than rich people to smoke.  He is also taxing poor people by refusing to exempt small precious metal sales (less than $1,000 at a time) from Sales Tax.  Only wealthy people who can afford to drop at least a grand at a time on gold and/or silver are eligible for tax exemption on precious metal sales, "for investment purposes."

His hypocrisy is also exemplified by his insistence on redistributing wealth from some businesses to others through his corporate welfare policies like these so-called, "tax free zones," with will put some businesses at a disadvantage to others.  He also wants the government to micromanage businesses by telling them what employees should get paid how much, thus creating a disincentive to be the most productive — read "most valuable" — employee.

Herr Cuomo needs to be relieved of his gubernatorial duties (preferably at the ballot in '14).  I absolutely dread the thought of him running for president, because that will result in a Neocon, the likes of W. (or pretty much anybody the Religious Right endorses for president) being elected.
